Diabetes could be linked to phthalates, chemical in common household products

Diabetes could be linked to phthalates, chemical in common household products, study suggests – Daily Dose: A Boston Globe blog with health news, advice, and information..

Over the years, it seems we have more and more things to “watch out for” in the products we buy and use on a daily basis.. Is anyone else growing a bit concerned?

The government / FDA permits the sale of such products… but then hey, they also permit the sale of cigarettes which have yet to be filled with vitamins and antioxidants (they really should work on that! Just an idea…)

Anyway, so not only do we need to stay healthy by exercising perhaps by going to the gym, or power-walking, cycling, participating in team sports…but we also watch what we put in our mouths…Is it pesticide-free? Organic? Not organic?  Is it carb-free, fat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, calorie-free… taste-free ;) ?   However, now it seems we also need increase our vigilance in the types of products we put on our skin or use around our household... Is it  phtalate-free, paraben-free, aluminum-free, mercury-free ? Is it a known carcinogen?

I mean.. SERIOUSLY???  Are you all as EXHAUSTED as I am  trying to keep up with all of these lurking dangers? Not only that, but there was a time when we didn’t look at ANY of these things – and I don’t know about you, but I felt better and healthier than now! (Could also be because I was younger I won’t rule that out, but still.)

Personally, I don’t even think that the obesity epidemic is due  to folks eating that much worse or that much more. Yes, we all do spend  inordinately more time behind our computers, tablets, iPad, laptops, kindles, nooks and netbooks. HOWEVER, I really think that the obesity epidemic is due to these same toxins and  chemicals added to processed food, AS WELL as all the hormones and antibiotics added to the non-processed food. Maybe now, even what we put on our skin!

Unfortunately, being that we’re all in the same boat, I  can’t even offer definitive advice or full proof suggestions on how to protect yourself.  At times, it even seems that new FDA clinical studies counter earlier ones… (remember when margarine was touted as better than butter?)  All I can do is give my opinion, provide some information and interesting links and hope they will help you in some way.

Do what you can and don’t worry or stress but be aware of what is around you.

Now, if ya’ll will excuse me, I have to go wrap myself up in a bubble.     :)
