All Bad Things Must Come to An End… BREAKING BAD

Image

Breaking-Bad_Wallpaper-2There are only two episodes left of the gripping series, Breaking Bad.

After a successful (and suspenseful!) five season run, the show will end –

Sunday, September 29th.

For those of you who would like to: catch up, refresh your memory, even begin watching the series (Yes! It’s not too late! Go for it ! The series finale is pretty much guaranteed to be water cooler gossip on Monday, Sept.30th!). Well, if so, then you are in luck as AMC will feature every single episode next week prior to the finale.

Bryan Cranston  is fascinating to watch as Mr. White –  to the point where you forget that he is an actor and that this is a show.  Cranston is just that good in the portrayal of his character, Mr. Walter White – and in all his levels of transformation… from well-respected, mild-mannered chemistry teacher – to the feared and calculating Heisenberg ..and then to the present …. where  he seems to hover between both extremes.

Breaking Bad floods us with a myriad of feelings…

Anticipation, admiration, scorn, surprise, irritation, excitement but never one of boredom!  As a captivated audience, you become vested in this character… at times you root for him, other times you’re appalled by his behavior,  (and ashamed for previously having cheered him on!).  Yet, at other points in time – you see that Walt does seem to care and have feelings (about certain things/people anyway..)..

We then feel bad for this high-school chem teacher as we watch him racing headlong down the wrong path as he tries try to reach his goal. Everything originally stemmed from a ‘good place’ – a ‘noble cause’, but as the seasons unfolded, Walt’s entire situation exploded into complete chaos and out-of-control mayhem.  And we LOVE every minute of it.   Yes, despite all the deceit and tangled web of lies this modern-day Jekyll and Hyde seems to weave…We love, like, dislike and despise him – all at the same time.  We sit hypnotized, watching Mr. White’s weekly antics, and can’t help but wonder, ‘Oh, Walt, but couldn’t you have found a better way?’

I will be on the edge of my seat watching the series finale  as I feel the show can ONLY end one way….  However, I REALLY DON’T want it to end as such.

***How I would like for the series to end (me & my rose-colored glasses):

The Police: Oh no worries! All a big misunderstanding! We’ll put you and your family into the witness protection program! No problem!

Walter White then signs up for the program, and rides off into the golden-orange sunset with his entire family and best friend Jesse at his side.  A letter from the hospital sits in the center console, stating that his cancer has disappeared (all the chemicals he was exposed to somehow must have mixed into a cure… sequel anyone?)..and somehow he has fully recuperated the $80 million dollars which are now sitting in the trunk!

Awesome ! Smiles all around.

But no.

I somehow have a very strong feeling that this will not be a potential ending.

So the only other option – is that the series concludes with Walt’s ultimate demise.

Here is my reasoning…Remember the first episode of this last season? Mr. White goes to his abandoned home, locates and removes a pill from behind the electrical outlet in his wall…Is he planning on killing himself? Why? No reason to keep on living? Well, the entire premise of the show since it’s inception has been about family and money – intertwined… . So..if there is no reason to keep on living – then that means either family or money has been affected in an irreversible way.

*** How the series will most likely end

Walt made the money to provide security for his  family.

(1) If there is no money, but still has his family – then he needs to make more money – and thus the series would continue.. maybe.

(2) If there is money,  but no more family –  then there really is no point for him to continue Though, he could run away, change his identity and hide out.

(3) If there is no longer any family or money – then there definitely doesn’t seem to be a point for him to continue what he is doing – unless his sheer will to survive overrides both reasons.

(4)  If he still has his family (which I sincerely doubt after last week’s fiasco) and they have money ..then he has succeeded in his original plan.  So again, he doesn’t need to continue doing anything.  There is just no way he’s going back to “normal”.

All four potential outcomes point clearly to only one resolution, Walter White’s ultimate demise. How else could it end?

I can’t wait to see what happens – yet, at the same time, I CAN wait – because I don’t want it to end! .. But I suppose all good/bad things come to an end!

Enjoy the marathon and last episodes !

Grand Theft Auto V, an $800 million shocker

Image

It must be  a celebration tonight for everyone over at Rockstar Games… as well as for the programmers and developers that worked on this latest video game in the  Grand Theft Auto series.  Rockstar Games is a subsidiary of Take-Two GamesGrand Theft Auto V was released yesterday, September 17th, 2013.

I mention this story and include the below link, not because I play this video game, but because I’m stunned at how much success it actually had in the past 24 hours of its release.

TOTAL expected sales for this game: $1 billion.

ACTUAL sales from the first day ALONE $800 million

In ONE day – it raked in $800 million!  $800 MILLION !!!! Not a bad start, right?! Wow.  In less than one week, if not within two days – sales will soar well past expectations.

Darn that 20/20 hindsight…..  I probably should have thought to invest in Take-Two Interactive Software’s, Inc (NASDAQ Stock symbol TTWO) prior to the release.

Sigh, maybe next time!

Have you purchased this game? Do you think it’s better than the earlier ones in the series?

San Gennaro

San Gennaro

San Gennaro.

It’s time to head down to Little Italy in NYC for the yearly San Gennaro Feast!

This is one of my favorite feasts – terrific food, huge crowds buzzing with energy, and fun games to be found everywhere. Well, fun that is, as long as I stay away from any dart games.. (long story! Let’s just say that I can be very naïve at times,  yet also very competitive when it comes to winning… I WILL WIN! ROAR! So I’m sure you can just imagine – naïve & competitive does not  a good combination make !

However, I’m definitely looking forward to procrastinating my diet for another 7 days or so (it’s been 6 years of procrastination, what’s another week, right? Sigh..ha!  🙂 ) to get my yearly fix of zeppoles, fried Oreos, and sausage&peppers.  Yum. These are definitely my  “go-to” foods..(and yes, then I can probably “go-to” the gym!)

So head on down from now until September 22nd if you can. It should be a great time for all. Plus, very pleasant weather is expected.   See you there !

Crash-Test Birdy

Today was a nice and quiet, peaceful Sunday.. I was in Sunday “lounge-mode”,  surfing the web and sitting by the window at my desk. All of a sudden – THUD!THUNK!  The unmistakable disturbing sound of a bird crashing into the window.

Now, I was surprised – living in NYC,  my windows are anything but super clear – and the curtains were down.  Also, surrounding said windows are reddish/salmon-ish colored bricks (lol is that a new color I’ve just invented? Salmonish? Hmm.. Note to self: Contact Crayola first thing in the morning! 😉 I’m gonna be rich!  wheeeeee!) .. but I digress.. Lastly,  there is a metal fire escape and the bars are half the size of the windows.

So, again… Not quite sure HOW the bird missed all of these solid and seemingly noticeable structures..perhaps it was distracted by the sight of traffic below or maybe it was woozy from a “Bad-Bird Weekend-Hangover”.. Anything is possible..

I gather my courage and lean forward to peek through the curtains, and sure enough…There on the fire escape- breathing very rapidly (yay! Still alive!) a bird. Not some ugly old gray pigeon. No – a beautiful bright green/yellow bird. No idea where it came from.  In a panic now I reached out for advice on Twitter, quickly started doing Google searches – WHAT DO I DO !!???

The Nurse/Nurturing side in me instinctively emerged and within seconds I felt ready to setup a temporary, pop-up Bird Ambulatory service right there at my desk and/or become the self-proclaimed Snow White of the City (there’s no forest here, OK ?? Gotta make do..)  and tend to my new feathered friend until miraculously healed (and it would definitely be a miracle as I know nothing about birds and can barely put band-aids on humans).

Luckily, I found four websites.   According to statistics, over 100 million birds die each year from such collisions.  Here are the sites for your reference:

1) Helped identify the type of bird  (1) and (2)      (Well, at least helps to narrow it down… Not sure if mine was a  Warbler, ChiffChaff, Greenfinch.. probably a Greenfinch… Note to self:  Add “Bird Watcher” to my list of  Not-Your-Forte-Do-Not-Attempt Careers..I’m awful at figuring out which bird is what!)

2) What to do

3) What to do going forward

I followed the advice and left the stunned bird alone. After five minutes it moved its wing back into a less awkward position. I kept checking on it and finally, after ten or 15 minutes I lifted the curtain one last time.  Pretty Bird looked at me and seemed to wink  and nod it’s head as if to say “thank you” .. Then in a flurry, my fallen friend batted green/olive wings and poof! Gone!  Good luck Bird !

Have a great week everyone !
